Ginger Zingiber officinale Family: Zingiberaceae
Ginger has been used for thousands of years, both to spice food and to sooth the digestive system. Ginger is reputed to alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness, makes a tingling bath and a refreshing tea, helps improve circulation, and makes a beautiful potted plant. Although gingerbread may seem like a recent (and Western) invention, it was actually being made by Greek bakers more than 4 thousand years ago.
For a soothing and tingling bath, try this (recipe provided by one of the many wonderful people I've met since I started this Web topic):
"A remedy I swear by is a ginger bath. If you have ever experienced aching muscles, this is a godsend.Cut an inch or so of fresh ginger (3 teaspoon of powered ginger is sufficent)put it in a saucepan with around 1 1/2 pints of cold water, bring to the boil and simmer until the water turns yellow, when this happens I usually put the ginger through my garlic press(Clean of course) and simmer for another 5 mins. Then strain and add to your bath. When you get out, keep very warm, I usually do this by going to bed. Its brilliant!!"
